Pool Party

I got invited to the 6th Annual Pro-Tec Pool Party at the Vans Skate Park in Orange. It's a bowl contest with over 40 pros competing. Vans made a replica of the infamous Upland Combi bowl for the event. The scene was sick !! I got to see Bucky Lasek, Omar Hassan, Chris Miller, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Nicky Guerrero, Steve Alba, Pat Ngoho, Tony Alva, and SOV's own Eddie Reategui perform. The contest debuts on August 6th at 8 p.m. on FUEL TV if you want to check it out yourself.

We Are Skateboarders

"We Are Skateboarders," is a new film by Poweredge Magazine and Director Ben Duffy. It's a new documentary film that asks, "Where is skateboarding going?" The movie features Lance Mountain, Rob Dyrdek, Steve Caballero, Mark Gonzales, Willy Santos, and many more pros. When asked about the film, Ben Duffy said, "I guess there are three goals for this film. To inform/remind people of where skateboarding came from-the original driving force was. To stop all the crazy pointless hate bullshit, and to hopefully discourage a few kids from wanting to get sponsored. I wouldn’t say its like a normal documentary where you feel like your being educated about something, its just basically a carnival of skateboard emotion." If people are interested in us having a screening of the film at SOV, please let know by e-mailing me at Kevin@sovskateshop.com.

CXXVI

CXXVI, The Rise of a New All-American Brand

Now available at Streets of Venice is the clothing line CXXVI. It's a New York based brand from Matt Gorton and Jon Contino. CXXVI’s gritty designs are inspired by those classic American fishing towns you pass by on the highway; the long-forgotten home to fishermen, deckhands and retired sailors. Having spent time on the East Coast, the images remind me of lazy days, having a beer by the ocean on Cape Cod. The brand is not even a year old and it's already being sold at the San Francisco Museum of Contemporary Art.

I Have Seen The Future

I have seen the future for skateboarding and his name is Asher. The kid is six years old and rips. I am 5'8 on a good day and Asher still only comes up to my belly button while standing on his deck. The kid is so good, that I am ashamed to say that he gave me pointers on how to skate. I am honored to say that I will be that old guy that says, "I remember when..."
