This Memorial Day Weekend come on into SOV for a sale. For me, this weekend is all about B.B.Q.-ing. So enjoy my favorite Hamburger videos from YouTube.
Lords of Liverpool is the officially licensed apparel inspired by the words of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. You would have to a bug that lived under a rock not to know that they were part of the Beatles. This is the only brand that is allowed to make tees with John and Paul's lyrics on them. The clothes are only for the ladies. Remember the Streets of Venice, it's getting better all the time !!!
In honor of the new Young and Reckless section in our store, we are having a party. There is sure to be some Drama if you are not there. So make your plans to attend now !!!
Photographer Elisabeth "Scooter" Fried stop by the shop to do a photo shoot with Daniel Clements. Above is a few of the shots that were taken. To see more of Fried's work go to www.elisabethfried.com.
I got invited to the 6th Annual Pro-Tec Pool Party at the Vans Skate Park in Orange. It's a bowl contest with over 40 pros competing. Vans made a replica of the infamous Upland Combi bowl for the event. The scene was sick !! I got to see Bucky Lasek, Omar Hassan, Chris Miller, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Nicky Guerrero, Steve Alba, Pat Ngoho, Tony Alva, and SOV's own Eddie Reategui perform. The contest debuts on August 6th at 8 p.m. on FUEL TV if you want to check it out yourself.
"We Are Skateboarders," is a new film by Poweredge Magazine and Director Ben Duffy. It's a new documentary film that asks, "Where is skateboarding going?" The movie features Lance Mountain, Rob Dyrdek, Steve Caballero, Mark Gonzales, Willy Santos, and many more pros. When asked about the film, Ben Duffy said, "I guess there are three goals for this film. To inform/remind people of where skateboarding came from-the original driving force was. To stop all the crazy pointless hate bullshit, and to hopefully discourage a few kids from wanting to get sponsored. I wouldn’t say its like a normal documentary where you feel like your being educated about something, its just basically a carnival of skateboard emotion." If people are interested in us having a screening of the film at SOV, please let know by e-mailing me at Kevin@sovskateshop.com.
Now available at Streets of Venice is the clothing line CXXVI. It's a New York based brand from Matt Gorton and Jon Contino. CXXVI’s gritty designs are inspired by those classic American fishing towns you pass by on the highway; the long-forgotten home to fishermen, deckhands and retired sailors. Having spent time on the East Coast, the images remind me of lazy days, having a beer by the ocean on Cape Cod. The brand is not even a year old and it's already being sold at the San Francisco Museum of Contemporary Art.
I have seen the future for skateboarding and his name is Asher. The kid is six years old and rips. I am 5'8 on a good day and Asher still only comes up to my belly button while standing on his deck. The kid is so good, that I am ashamed to say that he gave me pointers on how to skate. I am honored to say that I will be that old guy that says, "I remember when..."
The boy in this pic got his first skateboard yesterday at the shop. Do you remember your first board ? The kid got the DGK McBride Sugar High Red Deck with matching Gold wheels and thunder trucks. We now carry DGK, so you to can get your first or your 100th skateboard at SOV.
DGK decks, tees, and hats are now for sale at SOV. Also, we have treats from Anti-Hero and Spitfire. Plus, just got another shipment from Supra. And Dan had a Deathwish and it came true. We now have in stock Deathwish decks, t-Shirts, and caps.
We had the first of many, Streets of Venice Tuesday Night Jam Sessions. Led by Eddie Reategui, who brought with him the folks from Scum Skateboards. The owner of Scum, Cholo and team rider Screech ripped up the ramp. The evening was complete after a few more holes were added to the walls.
We now have the Bullet LK Black/White Tie-Dye on our shelves at SOV. This is Lizard King's first pro model shoe. It features a new lightweight cupsole with one piece toe cap and vulcanized outsole making it perfect to skate in. For more from the King check out the 5 W's on the Supra website http://suprafootwear.com/blog/2010/05/10/five-ws-lizard-king/.
Eddie Reategui did a demo for The Art Institute of California in Orange County. The best shots were taken by Eddie on his board, checking out the scene.
We have a secret at SOV, that we can't share just yet. But, fans of Young and Reckless need to stay tuned. A major announcement between Streets of Venice and Young and Reckless is coming...
Legendary Artist Doug Smith was in the shop. Smith is known for his creations during the infamous '70s and '80s era for Z-Flex and Venice and Santa Monica Z culture. From skateboard graphics to his original murals on the walls of the Venice Pit, Smith's work continues to be unique and an invaluable part of the LA urban art community. In the next few weeks, Smith will be adding some art to the walls of SOV. Also, be looking for collaboration projects between us and Smith. It doesn't get any more Venice than this, Smith wrote the following words before he left:

Congrats to Dan, Terry, and Jess for sending the next issue of Juice Magazine to print. The upcoming issue will contain the first ad ever for Streets of Venice Skateshop. We will be selling the newest Juice Mag, hot off the presses, at the shop.
Besides some new signs at the front of the shop, we also have a net covering the ramp, so you don't get hit in the face with a board. The Streets of Venice is now selling items from The Seventh Letter and Rebel 8. Also, we are the only place in the world that carries Hosoi T-shirts and hats and tees from the Daggers.
So this kid and his mom walk into the shop and ask if the kid can skate. Much to our surprise, the kid could rip. His name is Eisei Sugimoto and he was in town on vacation from Japan. Eisei loves skating so much, that he is going to High School in Canada next year, just so that he can get sponsored. Now that is dedication. His mom runs the website www.jajamama.com. Check it out to see more footage of Eisei.
Saturday marked the first demo at the Streets. C1RCA's Skate team of Windsor James, Abdias Rivera, and Sierra Fellers ripped it up much to the amusement of the crowd. Fuel TV covered the event. And everyone that was there got laced up in C1RCA gear.
