Cast Shadow

Congrats to our friends at Bloodbath Project, Eric and Ramon. We got invited to a Release Party at the Cabana Club, for the launch of Cast Shadow. It's a new line that is all hats. And the Bloodbath guys did it right, they had beautiful girls in a hot tub wearing the hats on a cold California night in Hollywood. The entire line will be at the Streets of Venice this upcoming week. So if you want to be the first to sport a fresh new headwear line, check it out at the Streets. To preview the hats go to www.bloodbathproject.com/CastShadow_Summer2010.pdf .

Shanked

We always take a picture of the people that buy our favorite boards at SOV. Jodana bought the Deathwish Jim Greco Shank Cruiser and then used it to stab her man.

Skatefest

The First Annual Westfield Culver City Skatefest was a huge success. A big thank you to Westfield's staff, Brixton, In4mation, KR3W, and Supra for sending us prizes, Champions for the street course, Bloodbath Project's Ramon Cho for making an amazing mural, and Juice Magazine's Dan Levy for announcing and conducting safety classes. Money was raised for the Land of Plenty.

Just a Reminder

We are having our Skatefest this Sunday between 12 and 5 p.m. We will be having a street course for everyone to use, demos on our ramp, a few pros will be on hand, video games, and raffle for charity. All the money raised is going "The Land of Plenty." The organization encourages creative physical education and artistic expression through the culture and activity of skateboarding.

The story of the Y&R hat

I am sure that everyone has had this happen to them, your teacher takes something away from you while you are in class. Well this is the story of someone who fought back and we are going to make sure that he wins. D.C. and his mom came into the store yesterday and asked the price of a Y&R hat, this is his story that he e-mailed to me.

"Ok Kevin, here's the story. It was the last day of school and I thought " Wow, its the last day of school, maybe I could wear my Reckless Snapback Hat". I thought wrong. So my Physics teacher, Mr. Frank took it away from me and told me to get it back after school was done. So when school was done, I go to him asking, " Hey Mr.Frank can I have my hat back?. So we go in all the classrooms and we couldnt find it anywhere. So he told me, "If he couldn't find it, he would buy me another one". And by the way, my name is Darnell AKA D.C.

We sold out of Y&R hats, but D.C. is going to be the first person that gets a hat when the new shipment arrives. And it will be paid for by Mr. Frank.

Ian Astbury

One of the many fun things about working with Daniel Clements is that you never know who he is going to bring into the shop. The other night Ian Astbury, the lead singer from The Cult and The Doors of the 21st Century, stopped by to hang with Dan. Ian brought his son with him to ride the ramp.

World Cup

With the whole world watching the World Cup, it just got me thinking, shouldn't they make skateboarding an Olympic sport?

Converse Shoe Release

Converse had a shoe release party at the Pink Motel for Rune Glifberg. The Pink Motel is where they shot Powell Peralta's, "The Search for Animal Chin." Converse went all out doing everything, including resurfacing the whole pool and adding transitions to the shallow end, so you could keep the lines going. Shredding the coping off the pool was Salba, Hosoi, Lance Mountain, and Eric Brittan, just to name a few. According to our rep., Converse shoes are headed to the Streets of Venice, so be on the look out.

Rebel8

We just got in the Summer selection from Rebel8. Founded in 2003, Rebel8 is the clothing line from Joshy D. and Mike Giant. It has roots in skateboard, graffiti, and tattoo cultures. The art is done by Mike Giant and each of his graphics are hand-illustrated. Unlike most clothing graphics, which are created by digitizing the original artwork into vector format, Mike's graphics are exact reproductions of his original art. Each season, Rebel8 brings in a guest artist to design a tee. This time they brought in Jay Howell. These tees won't last, so make plans to get yours today at SOV.

SOV X Y&R Video Recap

What The F___K ???

RUSTENBURG, South Africa -- The Brazilian referee and his assistants who will work the England-United States match at the World Cup have been studying English-language obscenities the players might use.

Carlos Simon will referee Saturday's match in Rustenburg, assisted by Roberto Braatz and Altemir Hausmann. They want to ensure players can't get away with abuse.

"We have to learn what kind of words the players say," Hausmann told Brazilian broadcaster Globo Sport. "All players swear and we know we will hear a few."

Braatz says they aren't learning them in "11 different languages, but at least we have to know the swear words in English."

FIFA denied reports that match officials have been given lists of swear words to listen for, but did say proficiency in English was a requirement for referees and assistants working the World Cup.

In addition, refereeing officials briefed all teams about the rules, including the potential for players to be cautioned or sent off for abusive language or gestures.

"There should not be any surprises to any members of the teams," FIFA spokesman Alex Stone said.
